Dated back to 1838, The University of Westminster is a London-based university that counts fashion designer Vivienne Westwood, Burberry’s chief executive officer Christopher Bailey, and Pink Floyd co-founder Roger Waters, among its former graduates. Westminster has secured a reputation as a place for firsts including the opening of the first public photographic portrait studio in Europe (1841) and the venue for the first public moving picture show in the UK, organised by the Lumiere brothers (1896).
In recently Research Assessment Exercise, Westminster was:
- Ranked 2nd for Communications, Cultural and Media Studies research
- Ranked 6th for Art and Design research
- Performed strongly in Architecture and the Built Environment
The QS World University Rankings ranked Media and Communications 3rd (UK) and 29th= (World)
Westminster has four main campuses, three of which are in central London and the other one is in Harrow, north-west London. All Westminster’s central London campuses are within walking distance of each other and enjoy enviable locations in the heart of London. London has been named the fifth best city worldwide in which to study. Alongside London’s “world-class” facilities and links with business and the professions, the city was also commended as “one of the planet’s great centres of culture and creativity”.
