The University of Surrey International Study Centre (ISC) is a teaching facility for international students who need tailored pathways into various degree undergraduate and postgraduate programs at the University. The ISC is based in a brand-new, purpose-built facility in the Philip Marchant Building at the heart of the University campus. Once you have successfully completed the International Foundation Year or Pre-Masters, you can proceed directly to your degree at University of Surrey that autumn.

University of Surrey ISC Programs
The International Foundation Year and Pre-Masters program are delivered by the ISC. You will be taught by specialists in university preparation. Your progress will be monitored at all times to make sure you remain on track to successfully complete the program. You will also benefit from regular assessment through examination and marked coursework.
The University of Surrey International Foundation Year is fully integrated with many undergraduate degrees at the University to give international students a full year to build essential academic knowledge and skills required in their chosen field.
By assisting students to develop a solid academic foundation as well as improving study skills and English language skills, degrees with International Foundation Year enable students overcome the challenges of a different education system. Such students usually quickly improve their knowledge and skills before moving onto the next three years of their degrees.
Selected undergraduate degrees are accessible with the International Foundation Year option. Depending on the degree you want to do, you can choose one of the two International Foundation Year routes listed below:
- Business, Economics, Law and Politics
- Engineering, Science and Mathematics
All Foundation routes are modular in structure. There are five core modules common to each route: English Skills 1, English Skills 2, Study Skills, Project Study and Maths. You will also study five subject-specific modules, each carefully designed to focus on your degree.
The University of Surrey International Foundation Year is validated by the University of Sussex and introduces you to the style of teaching that you will experience when you progress onto your degree. You will be taught in tutorials, seminar style classes and larger group lectures.
Joining the International Foundation Year guarantees that you will receive a conditional offer of a degree place at the University. On successful completion of the International Foundation Year, you can proceed directly to your degree at Surrey.
Ranked 10th in the UK for Economics, the University of Surrey is also the best for producing the most employable graduates in the country, and has a strong international reputation for producing highly skilled Economics graduates.
The University of Surrey Pre-Masters prepares international students for the demands of a taught Masters degree in Economics at the University of Surrey. The course will provide a fully supported learning environment and will give you the language skill, study and research skills as well as the academic knowledge you will need to qualify with a Masters in Economics from the University of Surrey. You will learn in small classes and seminars over two or three terms.
You can study these masters degree after the pre-masters:
- MSc Economics
- MSc Energy Economics and Policy
- MSc International Economics, Finance and Development
- MSc Business Economics and Finance
Joining the Pre-Masters program guarantees you a conditional offer of a place on a Masters degree at the University. Once you have successfully completed the course, you will proceed directly to your preferred Masters.
