Teesside University
Teesside University was granted university status in 1992, adding it to the list of UK’s ‘new universities’. Prior to university status, Teesside had been known as Constantine Technical College since 1930. In its short tenure, Teesside has won two prestigious awards and been a finalist in another. In 2009, Teesside University was awarded the Times Higher Education University of the Year award. Teesside was also given the Outstanding Employer Engagement Initiative award. In 2010, Teesside was a finalist in the running for the Times Higher Education Entrepreneurial University of the Year award.
Teesside students gave the university an 84 per cent satisfaction rating for all of its coursework, and the university’s library facilities rank number one in the North East and within the top 10 of all English universities. Teesside performed well in the 2008 RAE. Seventy per cent of Teesside’s research was classified as ‘international quality or higher’. Teesside’s computing research received a 55 per cent ‘internationally excellent’ rating, and 10 per cent was ranked as ‘world leading’. History also performed well, with 50 per cent of the research dubbed ‘internationally excellent’ and 10 per cent ‘world leading’.
Teesside University has approximately 28,780 students. Over 1,400 students come from overseas countries, accounting for approximately 5.6 per cent of the student body. The largest concentration of overseas students comes from China, the second largest concentration from Qatar. According to the 2010/2011 HESA DLHE survey, nearly 80 per cent of Teesside graduates moved on to full or part-time work or further study.

Teesside University is located on the River Tees in Middlesbrough, England, which dates back to 686. Tees Valley boasts itself as being one of England’s ‘best kept secrets’. Located on the North East coast of England, Tees Valley offers surfing and a national park for outdoor adventure. The city also offers plenty of architecture, culture, shopping, and a bevy of bars and clubs to support an exciting nightlife. Sports fans will find professional football and speedway racing. Middlesbrough provides excellent transport, including train service to other historic English cities such as Liverpool and Manchester.
