What Is a Human Resource Management Degree?
A degree in Human Resource Management will increase your awareness of how people are managed in organisations. This will include employment policy, employment law, organisational psychology and organisational analysis. It will prepare you to work as a Human Resource professional in a wide variety of sectors including education, healthcare, banking and finance, hospitality and tourism and the arts.
What will I study?
You will study the key principles of management including marketing, finance, economics and sociology. You will then have the opportunity to specialise in Human Resources, allowing you to study new developments in the fields of HR and management through practical and theoretical modules.
The first year aims to give you thorough preparation in the foundations of management. Units may include economic principles, marketing foundations, case studies in management, quantitative methods for business and management and organisation studies.
The second year will allow you to specialise in Human Resources alongside building your knowledge and understanding in management. Compulsory HR units may include employment relations, globalisation and employment and law in a management context. Optional units will continue to build your business and management knowledge and may include consumer behaviour, financial reporting and management accounting.
In the third year you will be offered units that build your HR management knowledge at a more in-depth level, as well as complementary general management units. Units may include global management, human resource strategy and practice, employment law, international HR, management accounting, international finance and corporate finance.
